Review: EZ Fin Tool
Friday, October 16, 2009

I love simple solutions to complex problems, adventurous waterski entrepreneurship, and dislike measuring the fin on my slalom ski. That's why I love the EZ Fin Tool so much. This basic, inexpensive device allows you to measure your fin consistently and easily.

Review: Proskicoach.com Virtual Coaching
Wednesday, August 5, 2009

Before I get started with this review, let's think of a few things that cost 85.00:

  • -A nice ski handle
  • -A nice life jacket or neo top
  • -Dinner with a couple drinks
  • -1 concert ticket
  • -1 bottle of Dom
  • -1 tank of gas last summer
  • -1 virtual coaching session on Proskicoach.com that will blow your mind

As they say, priceless.

Gifted - DVD Review
Tuesday, June 16, 2009

The waterski DVDs that I love most generally fall into two categories: movies that total slalom addicts/geeks like myself particularly appreciate and those that I would show non-skiers in order to get them into skiing immediately. The latter category is the rarer of the two and is the category I'd assign to Gifted.

Trakker P4 Camera Mount Review
Saturday, June 13, 2009

This is one of my favorite skiing accessories. Because I have a Trakker P4 camera mount, I know I will have perfect video of my skiing every time I'm out. It doesn't matter who is in the boat, who's driving, or what boat it's on. The video is going to rock every time, guaranteed. We do a lot of skiing with no spotter at all, so this little device allows me to get great video even in those situations.

Perfect Pass Stargazer: A Practical Review
Friday, June 5, 2009

Let me paint a scene for you: It's 06:30AM. You woke up at 05:30AM, pressed the snooze bar a couple times, prepped the boat with gear and trailered it to the lake. You're groggy, but a stop at the gas station for coffee and some gas for the boat helps. Friends are waiting at the ramp, and you don't want to be late regardless of how late you stayed up the night before. The lake is glass. No wind, and no other boats moving on the water. The course stretches out in front of your boat, all buoys perfectly in line like the lights of a runway. All the buoys are there too— what a bonus!

OJ XPC Dripless Shaft Seal
Sunday, March 9, 2008

I'll be upgrading my old shaft seal/stuffing box to an OJ dripless seal system this spring. The kit comes with the seal itself, a rubber bellows that connects the seal to your existing shaft log, a tee connector to tap into your raw water supply as well as a length of clear tubing to deliver water to the shaft seal. My kit also came with a shaft installation tool which prevents any threading on double-taper shafts from damaging the seal during installation.

OJ XPC Strut Bushings
Sunday, March 9, 2008

Although my boat still runs very smoothly with almost zero vibration at any speed, I can feel a little play in my prop shaft if I move it around by hand. With the amount of hours currently on the boat (350-450ish) and the fact that there is some play in the shaft, I'm planning on replacing the strut bushings this spring. This is a pretty involved project as it involves dropping the shaft and rudder, as well as separating the coupler from the prop shaft (single taper shaft, too). However, like most boat projects, I just can't wait to jump in and do it once it warms up around here.
