This past Saturday we held our annual Wilmington Ski Warriors Tournament at Wilmington Recreation Club in Illinois.  Over 30 skiers competed.  My son Timmy went uncontested in his divisions, having fun in slalom and trick.  Max took 1st place in Boys II slalom against two other competitors.  Additonally, Max won the coveted Ron Romanowski Achievement Award.  Kara took first in Girls III scoring 2 buoys at 32mph 15off.  I took 2nd among 4 with a score of 4 bouys at 34/15.  My friend Ed took first place in Men's 34 slalom...getting into 32off followed by great tricking and a barefoot exposition.

We just beat out the storm which wiped out power in the club. Thankfully, gracious club members and a great DJ cranked up enough generators to power the dance and award ceremony.  Great day, great people!

Max

Timmy's looking good!

Kara happy with her performance

Falcon Eddie (Keith) 1 ball at 34/15

Ed can ski!

Max gets "The Romanowski"!

Forgot to mention the new boat and ZO

I forgot to mention this.  Someone on our lake got a beautiful new Mastercraft with ZO and let us use it to pull slalom.  First time using ZO.  I think we were on a B setting.  Between that and the larger wake on the Mastercraft, things were a bit different...but I skied just about as good as I have in me at this time, as did Kara.

Well, I told you that I learned how to keep my hips up at ski school, so I thought I'd show you the results. I did a little free skiing this morning after starting the day with a few barefoot runs behind the boat, which is a great way to start a ski set! I handed my camera over to Mark and free-skied at 32 mph, 15 off. I wasn't really "feeling it" until my second set, which was completely un-... Read more

Seriously. I know this sounds crazy coming from the guy who just weeks ago was whining about his new ski and skiing slump. This is the same guy who did not run a full pass for most of August. But, I said that once I got this ski dialed in and got used to the ski I'd be a better skier. I believe that has happened, at least to some degree. Yesterday I ran several 32mph passes fully. Then, I told my... Read more

I'm lucky enough to have enjoyed plenty of good water, public and private, for the large majority of my skiing tenure. Still, the novelty of being the first boat moving on a nice big public lake never seems to wear off. We had one of the best mornings on public water of all time today. Yes, a beautiful Sunday AFTER Memorial day in the high 60's and 70's with just about zero wind. The lake was a... Read more

I love simple solutions to complex problems, adventurous waterski entrepreneurship, and dislike measuring the fin on my slalom ski. That's why I love the EZ Fin Tool so much. This basic, inexpensive device allows you to measure your fin consistently and easily. Here's how it works: Fin length is measured in a traditional fashion using jaws or tips of a caliper. It's tough to improve on that... Read more
