Life is good

1 March 2013

Its been a rough couple seasons. Lost last season deployed for training and the season before rehabbing from a serious accident. I now have anchors in both shoulders, and repairs on both knees.

This year is different though. I've invested a lot of time into the gym this winter and intend to attack the course with a vengence.Typically the ice moves away from the course around the 2nd week of March so any day now we could be out there.

My good friend and ski buddy, the guy that started this whole addiction in the first place, is on board again this year so all I need now is for the sun to come out.

The issue at hand is what am I going to ski on? My good friend Eddie Roberts raised the bar once again in slalom ski excellence last fall by putting out the atomic orange Strada (which I have on the bench right now) but all that powerlifting has put me well over weight even for its 36mph rating. So for now I'm looking for something to support all this extra girth. Not that I mind skiing 36mph, it feeds my "hair on fire" nature, but for now I'll need the extra support.

So diary entry number one is all about plotting and scheming. Setting up the equipment, taking stock in the physical preparation, and waiting for the ice to move away.

Oh ya, and I found a 3,4,5 semi-dry wetsuit last month that looks like I'm wrapped in the American Flag. Super obnoxious stars and bars. Its a little over the top, looking like Cpatian America, but I can 't wait to wear it. Pics to follow...

Nice to have you back around

Nice to have you back around Bill!  I was just going through some of my old videos this weekend and watched the review we did together at Emerald Lake of your red, white and blue Tige.

Tige'

Thanks Anthony, its god to be back. I remember that boat well. It did a lot of things real well. I'm in something a lot lighter, quicker, and closed bow now. CAN'T WAIT to get it out of the garage.

Ski Entry #2

Uncovered the boat today. That smell underneath the cover of a boat in storage is intoxicating. Fiberglass, gasoline, neoprene, sunscreen. Takes me to my happy place. It snowed on and off all day, but I'm confident we'll be on the water before the 15th.

Bill, good ol' boat smell is

Bill, good ol' boat smell is definitely an intoxicating aroma! Still in the Response CB?

Closed bow forever

Oh yes. Something old, something new. Love the combination of the "old" hull design, modern driveline and the ZO speed control. I propped up an inch, but besides that its just how Malibu built it for me.

If I could figure out how to attach a pic from my computer I'd post one.

Well Seth, wrap it up- I'm taking it home. Finally got a chance to ride the 2007 Connelly F1X. Of the 3 widebody skis I've tested so far (HO Triumph, O'Brien Synchro, and the F1X) this ski was the easiest for me to ride right out of the box. Having never ridden the ski before, even braving rollers from public lake traffic, I bagged all 6 bouys on the 3rd try at 30mph. Seth was happy to send the... Read more

I know, this is a waterski blog, but tf you have received your most recent copy of Waterski Magazine, on page 10 (bottom right) you will see me at the summit of Mt. Katahdin reading the last issue of 2012.  I thought you might like to hear the short story version of my adventure and first ever climb up a real mountain in the middle of the Maine wilderness and my return home.  Maybe... I took a little time on my memorial day weekend to take some still frames from several videos I have of me skiing. The stills can be seen in the Photos section of this site. A still from video is more powerful than a simple picture from a camera because you have exact context with the still frame. In looking at stills, you are going through the video frame by frame and you are seeing exactly... Read more
