Pre-gate + Gate only practice course?

Practicing the pull-out, glide, and turn-in seems so important that perhaps a course that was easy to transport and drop in and consisted of only 2 sets of gates 55M apart would be a handy item to have.

On a day where you would only be free skiing and didn't have the course, you could drop in this dual-gate setup and at least hit some gates over and over. Thoughts?

Good idea in theory...

I think you would need at least 1 and 2 ball to make it worth the effort...just to make sure you're getting maximum width while linking turns.

I had been contemplating a topic over the winter that was recently mentioned in this thread on Ball of Spray.  Do we really want to be "light on the line", and what does that phrase really mean anyway? The seeds of my questions were planted watching two different skiers from the boat in 2012 - the first was Todd Ristorcelli at Ski Paradise in Acapulco, Mexico.  (I wasn't... Being a father has taught me a lot of things in life, including some very unexpected psychology lessons while attempting to introduce our kid to this sport. The picture above is our then-almost-3-year-old taking her first (and possibly last [!] run behind the boat) I'd like to tell that story, as well as my own childhood water skiing story in an attempt to drum up some conversation on the... Did you ever notice that when you watch a beginner course skier ski the course, their ski bobbles 3 times over the wake? One bobble in, one bobble over the hump, and one bobble out. When you watch a more capable skier, they have one bump, and they are done and onto the buoy. My skiing usually looks like the 3-bobbles-over-the-wake technique, the worst being the 2nd "trough" that comes right after... Read more

Unless you're one of the lucky few who get a brand new boat every year, you have to maintain your ski boat in order for it to serve you well year after year. My 2000 Ski Nautique is entering it's NINTH SUMMER of life and has somewhere between 350-450 hours on it. It hasn't asked for much in its time but it does need new strut bushings. While I have the prop shaft out, I figure I'll also replace... Read more
